Why do we need to have music in the world?

When I was a little girl I loved to go to my fathers room to music. He wrote for the music magazine OOR and therefore had a large cd collection. Sometimes when I sad there watching him work, he put on a cd and asked my opinion about it. A lot of times I did not know what to say and came with a very "adult" sesponce, at least I thought it seemed adult. My father loved and still loves metal, we listened a lot to this type of music. Back then it was not my kind of music. That is not strange for a four years old, I prefered K3. Of course throughout the years my music taste changed. With the age of eight I started with my first fluit lesson. I loved to go to the music school and have fun playing with my teacher and peer student, but practicing was something I did not like to do. I resisted for two more years util I decided to stop. I still loved to listen to music, but playing fluit was just not my idea of making music. What came out of that fluit of mine did not even sound like music.

When I asked my parents to try another instrument they agreed. I already knew what I would loved to try; the piano. When we thought we had found a good teacher I started the lessons. That women is still the most nervous person I have ever met. After a year I gave up, she just could not motivate my to play this wonderful instrument. Luckily we found another teacher, she was a nice blond haired women who lives near to my house. For more than four years I go to music lessons at her place and I really enjoy it. But what she teaches me is classical music, I never learned how to use chords and blues of jazz. That is why I looked for another teacher who would give me, next to her classical lessons, jazz and blues lessons. Two weeks ago I started those lessons and I really enjoy it, I practice way more!

More about my music experiences another time, for now I whould like to talk about the question: Why do we need music in the world?

My answer is definitly yes! As you read above, music keeps me busy for already my entire life. I would never have been able to express my feelings without listening or playing music. Music reminds me of the time in which I went to my father's room or when I played the fluit. It is a piece out of my life and I think that I speak for everybody in the world. I certain that everybody has a certain song, maybe without even knowing it, which reminds them of a very sad or happy period in their lives. Music tells stories and those do not have to be the same for everybody. Without music, the world would be a grey place.
